The atmosphere in the main hall was tense as Madame Shang faced off against the young Hu Fei. Though frail in appearance, her eyes burned with vengeance. She raised her Purple Gold Eight-Trigram Blade, her voice trembling with decades of suppressed rage. “Your father robbed me of my husband. Today, his son will pay.”
Without warning, she launched into the “Turning Body Mountain-Cleaving Blade,” a deadly technique of the Bagua school. The blade swept toward Hu Fei’s neck with shocking speed. But Hu Fei—small, quick, and fiercely talented—dodged at the last instant and countered with a grab at her wrist.
What followed was a breathtaking exchange. Madame Shang’s strikes were ruthless, each slash aimed to kill. She fought with the desperation of someone who had waited years for this moment. Hu Fei, though young, moved with agility and precision, using his father’s techniques to parry and strike back. He used the Great Capturing Hand technique, aiming to disarm her.
Candlelight flickered across their faces as blade met air, then flesh—a sharp slap echoed as Hu Fei landed a strike on Madame Shang’s cheek. Another followed. Enraged and humiliated, she stumbled, but Hu Fei pressed on, seizing her wrist and kicking her backward. In one fluid motion, he wrested the Purple Gold Blade from her grip.
Just then, Wang Jianjie, a master of the Bagua school and brother of the late Shang Jianming, stepped forward. “Let me handle this boy,” he declared, drawing his own blade.
Hu Fei grinned fearlessly. “If you’re so tall, fight me on equal ground!” He dragged a long bench to the center of the hall and stood on it, now eye-level with his opponent.
Wang Jianjie attacked with the “Bagua You Shen” technique—a flowing, circular style meant to disorient and overwhelm. He moved like a phantom, now in front, now behind, his blade humming through the air. But Hu Fei, light-footed and clever, leaped and dodged, using the bench to his advantage. When Wang tried to sweep his legs, Hu Fei kicked the bench upright, striking Wang in the chin.
The crowd gasped—a child was humiliating a seasoned master.
Wang Jianjie abandoned all restraint. He kicked the bench over and charged bare-handed, his palm strikes fierce and precise. Hu Fei blocked with the bench and swung the heavy Purple Gold Blade, but Wang was too strong. A powerful slap landed on Hu Fei’s shoulder, nearly throwing him off balance.
Yet Hu Fei fought on, his spirit unbroken. In a final, daring move, he used the bench to trap Wang’s blade, then disarmed him with a swift twist. Now holding two blades, Hu Fei pressed his attack—rolling, slashing, and striking with breathtaking speed.
But Wang Jianjie was not easily defeated. Empty-handed, he used his superior strength and technique to seize one of the blades back. He threw it aside and closed in again, his palms like iron. With a roar, he disarmed Hu Fei completely, sending the Purple Gold Blade clattering to the floor.
Just as Wang was about to deliver a finishing blow, Hu Fei pointed and laughed. “You fight well—for a bully!”
Confused, Wang hesitated—and in that moment, Hu Fei escaped his grasp, leaping back with a defiant smile.
Though he did not win outright, Hu Fei had held his own against one of the best fighters of the Bagua school. His courage, skill, and cleverness left everyone in awe—especially Madame Shang, who realized the son of Hu Yidao was every bit as dangerous as his father.
