Cui Qiushan, carrying the injured Yuan Chengzhi, fought desperately against four skilled agents from the Eastern Depot. Despite being poisoned by a dart and weakened, Cui displayed astonishing martial prowess. With one arm holding Chengzhi and the other wielding an iron flail, he faced the encircling enemies.
One agent brandished twin blades, another a heavy iron flail, while the others attacked with spears and hidden weapons. Cui deflected a volley of darts with the flail, the metallic clashes echoing through the night. He kicked out, sweeping the legs of one attacker, then used the flail to hook the spear of another, disarming him with a sharp twist.
Yuan Chengzhi, though young, tried to help, but Cui pushed him behind, shouting, “Run! I’ll hold them off!” But Chengzhi stood his ground, picking up a fallen sword to block a strike aimed at Cui’s back.
With a roar, Cui unleashed the “Subduing Tiger Palm,” striking one agent in the chest. The man flew backward, coughing blood. Another agent lunged with twin blades, but Cui sidestepped, grabbed his wrist, and snapped it with a crisp sound. The man screamed, dropping his weapon.
The remaining two agents hesitated, but Cui gave them no chance. He threw the iron flail like a whirlwind, striking one in the temple. The last agent fired a poisoned dart, but Cui caught it mid-air and flung it back, piercing the man’s throat.
Just as it seemed the fight was won, Cui’s leg gave way—the poison was spreading. He collapsed to one knee, breathing heavily. Yuan Chengz rushed to support him, but more shouts were heard in the distance: reinforcements were coming.
Cui gritted his teeth, stood up, and hoisted Chengzhi onto his shoulder. “We must go—now!” He leaped onto a horse and galloped away, arrows whizzing past their heads as they disappeared into the dark forest.
Having trained for years under his master, Mu Renqing, Yuan Chengzhi stumbles upon a hidden cave where the skeletal remains of the mysterious Golden Snake Gentleman, Xia Xueyi, are preserved. Inside, he finds not only a trove of deadly hidden weapons—the Golden Snake Shurikens—but also a series of martial arts diagrams carved into the stone walls. These illustrations correspond to a secret manual hidden in a trapped iron box, which Yuan Chengzhi narrowly avoids triggering thanks to his honesty and respect for the dead.
The manual contains unique and unorthodox martial techniques that defy conventional wisdom—bizarre yet brilliantly effective. As Yuan Chengzhi studies it, he becomes engrossed in its cunning and ruthless methods, so different from the righteous teachings of the Hua Shan Sect. He also retrieves the legendary Golden Snake Sword, a uniquely designed weapon with a forked tip that enables deadly and unpredictable techniques.
The tension peaks when two members of the Shiliang Sect, Zhang Chunjiu and a bald accomplice, storm the mountain in search of the same treasure. They ambush Yuan Chengzhi and the mute servant, using stupefying drugs. In a tense struggle, Yuan Chengzhi is captured and bound, but the greed and treachery of the intruders lead to their downfall: Zhang murders his partner only to succumb to the poison coating the fake manual.
Yuan Chengzhi survives the ordeal, burns the manual after deciphering its deepest secrets, and retrieves the Golden Snake Sword. This segment is rich with suspense, moral dilemmas, and thrilling martial arts intrigue, showcasing Yuan Chengzhi’s growth from an earnest disciple into a formidable warrior poised to navigate the treacherous jianghu.
